Masovia (Polish: Mazowsze) is situated in central Poland (to the south of what used to be Prussia) and on lands conquered by Polish dukes.

History

For centuries, Masovia was an independent duchy. Later it was annexed by Poland. During Reformation? and Counter-Reformation? times Masovians took refuge in the Protestant state of Prussia. Therefore a southern part of Prussia was then named Masuren (Masuria, in English).
