MIPS Computer Systems Inc.

MIPS Computer Systems Inc. was founded in 1984 by a group of researchers from Stanford University. SGI acquired the company in 1992 and ran it as MIPS Technologies Inc. (MTI), a wholely owned subsidiary of SGI. MTI makes an initial public offering on June 30, 1998. SGI spinned it off on June 20, 2000 by distributing all its interest as stock dividend to the stock holders.
