Irgun

Irgun (shorthand for Irgun Tsvai-Leumi, also spelt Irgun Zvai Leumi), was a Jewish terrorist group based in the British Mandate of Palestine, prior to the founding of the State of Israel. It was founded in Jerusalem in 1931 by Avraham Tehomi, to levy war against the British and Arabs. In 1943 Menachem Begin, who later became Prime Minister of Israel, became its leader. Later on, the Irgun was merged into the Israeli Defence Force.
