1. Inhabitants of India in Asia, sometimes called East Indians although that name sould attach to those who live in the [East Indies]? islands.

2. Those aboriginal peoples of the Americas first misidentifed by Christopher Columbus who thought he had reached the East Indies. Sometimes called "Red Indians", the American ones now call themselves [Native Americans]? and the Canadian ones [First Peoples]?. Living in a tribal strucure where most tribes had different languages and culture as well as different kinship, many have the name of their tribe in their one native language a word which just means "the people".
