The GIMP (
GNU
Image
Manipulation
Program) is a
GPL program for creating and processing
raster graphics (with some support for
vector graphics). It can be used interactively, but, unlike most other graphical programs, is also fully programmable (currently in
Scheme,
Perl,
Python and (experimental)
Ruby). It can thus be used for
CGI and in other non-interactive ways.
The program was originally designed for the X Window System running on Unix or GNU/Linux but has since been ported to Windows.
GIMP uses Gtk+ as its widget toolkit; in fact, Gtk was initially part of the GIMP.
The first versions of the GIMP were made by [Spencer Kimball]? and [Peter Mattis]?.
