Fatherland

A fatherland is an ethnic nationalist concept that sees the nation to which one belongs as a paternal? figure.

Groups that refer to their homeland as a "father" include

• the Basque, particularly the Basque Fatherland and Liberty (Euzkadi Ta Askatasuna , ETA) organization
• the Germans, as das Vaterland

'Das Vaterland' is the land that ones father was born and died in. (Sample American song "my country...land where my fathers died ....")

'Die Muttererde' ( mother earth) is the ground and soil that one plants and harvests , die Heimat (homeland).

While father is male = Der Vater

and mother is female = Die Mutter

fatherland is both or it = Das Land , referring to the land

as in the child = Das Kind
