Distilling is a means of enhancing alcoholic content in a liquid through evaporation. The basic fact that enables distilling to take place is that alcohol (primarily ethanol, sought for its intoxicating effects) and water have different boiling temperatures: Thus careful heating of an alcoholic liquid mainly containing alcohol and water will separate the two liquids. It is impossible to achieve perfectly pure alcohol through means of distilling.

See Distillation.
