869). One of the two brothers who invented and brought the
Glagolitic alphabet to
Moravia in order to teach and instruct a selected group of pupils the newy invented alphabet.
Cyril travelled with his brother
Methodius. The two managed to convince the Pope that the
Slavs needed the
Bible in their own language. His work was later transmitted by his pupils who made the journey back from Moravia to Bulgaria. Cyril, however, did not invent the alphabet on Bulgarian territory. Cyril was later cannonised as a saint by the Orthodox Church and is also called "apostle of the Slavs".
