Austria was a part of
Bavaria . When the Bavarian kings became to powerful , the emperor
sectioned the Eastern Mark (Ostmark) off to be ruled as a seperate state of the empire.
The first record showing Austria is appr. 955 where it is written down as Ostaricci .
