He was born, educated and worked all his life in Barcelona, Spain.
His first works had been influenced by gothic and Catalan architectural modes but he later developed his own characteristic sculptural style.
In the early days of his career Gaudi was under strong influence of a French
architect [Eugene Viollet-Le-Duc]? who promoted return to and evolution of
gothic architecture.
His designs are highly original - they are irregular, fantastically shaped with intricate art nouveau-like patterns. Some of his major works, most notably, La Sagrada Familia are grand examples of his mastership and genius.
