The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle is a collection of (mainly) secondary source documents narrating the history of the Anglo-Saxons
? and their settlement in Britain. Much of the information which these documents contain is unreliable, and has a particular agenda in mind, i.e. the legitimisation of the Anglo-Saxon conquest of the British Isles.
The work is thought by some to have been commissioned originally by King Alfred but there is no substantiating evidence for this.
