A Killfile is a list of patterns that are used to hide newsgroup or email messages so that the reader does not have to see them.

Each message is examined to see if it contains one or more of the killfile patterns, for example, e-mail address, domain name, subject heading, thread, etc. If a message contains a killfile pattern, the newsreader program or email program deletes the message.
