personal attack is the pointing out or bringing to the surface in a destructive manner a flaw in a person's personality, lifestyle, convictions or principles, usually to the benefit of another party, such as in a political debate. For example, two senators running for the same office are in a heated debate:
Senator1: "I believe we should have tougher penalties for drivers caught speeding."
Senator2: "But is it not true that you allowed your own son to drive even after he got a speeding ticket?"
