Hegel's works are well known for their difficulty, and for their the breadth of the topics they attempt to cover. Hegel introduced a system for understanding the history of philosophy (an of the world itself) as a progression of thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Hegel used this system to explain the whole of the history of philosophy and religion, but many contemporary critics point out that Hegel often seem to gloss over the realities of history in order to fit it into his dialectical mold.
