A military term that arose during World War II and remains in popular use today. It is an acronym for "Situation Normal, All Fucked Up", although "fouled" was often used in polite company as a euphemism for "fucked". Its companion acronym is "FUBAR", standing for "fucked (or fouled) up beyond all recognition".
