American film director who rapidly rose to fame in the early 1990s on the back of his directorial debut, [Reservoir Dogs]?, in which he also acted. A stylish, witty yet bloody heist movie, this set the tone for his later films. The follow up [Pulp Fiction]?, which won the [Palme D'or]? at the [Cannes film festival]?, was a complexly plotted portmanteau film with a similarly brutal wit and many excellent performances. It was noted for reviving the career of [John Travolta]?.
