The old Pomerania proper (Pommern) is now a part of Poland. Western Pomerania (Vorpommern) was under Swedish control from the peace treaty of Westphalia in 1648. See History of Germany.

One of 16 Bundeslands in Germany, it borders on Poland and the Baltic Sea. Its English name is Mecklenburg - Western Pomerania.
