Baghdad

Capital of Iraq, pronounced in English essentially as a combination of the basic words bag and dad.

With a population of over 3 million people, it is the largest city in Iraq. Geographically located near the Tigris river, in the middle of the ancient Mesopotamian and Sumerian? empires. Baghdad was founded in the 8th century BCE and was one of the more important cities in the Islamic and Ottoman (Turkish) empires.
