Ten people are invited to a remote estate by an eleventh person who never arrives, and are killed one by one. Republished as "And Then There Were None" in 1940, and made into a film by the same name in 1945 and again (to lesser effect, arguably) in 1974; the novel was also filmed as "Ten Little Indians" in 1959, 1966, and 1989.
