A capella is an Italian term for [vocal music]? without instrumental accompaniment. The term literally means like the chapel(music), pointing at the [Sixtinian Chapel]? in Rome. A capella music was used a lot in [church music]? (an early example is [Gregorian music]?). A choir singing without instrumental accompaniment is called an a capella choir.
