[Home]Trail Riding

Trail riding is riding on trails as opposed to riding on roads or courses.

 1. On horses
 2. On bicycles
 3. On motorcycles

This activity is all for fun. It is all about challenging terrain shared with friends in the great outdoors. Spontaneous competion often occurs beteween the riders as well, but speed is not the reason for trail riding. Just having fun and enjoying nature is the goal. Riders will often stop at a challenging section and ride it over and over until the new skills are learned.

Minor injuries are a part of the sport. Riders take care of each other and will go above and beyond to help a fallen friend, knowing that some day he or she may need the same assistance. Injuries heal, but the feelings of euphoria after a good ride are remembered forever.

Environmentalists see this pleasurable activity as detrimental to the land, but in fact many off road motorcyclists, especially those who get involved in the sport by joining an organized club, perform hours of trail maintenance yearly. Environmentalists and motorcyclists are in effect coworkers in maintaining the land. Only the extremists on both sides persist in pointless bickering over who should be excluded.

This page violates the [Neutral Point of View]?. It needs a considerable rewrite. -- Robert Merkel

It is also skewed towards bicycle and motorcykles. Environmentalists rarely have anything against horses. --Anders Törlind
