The Empire of The Petal Throne is a role-playing game system that was developed to provide a more "realistic" alternative to the Tolkien-flavored RPGs which arose from D&D/Chainmail? miniatures (wargaming) rules.

The world is based on India, Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Meso-American mythology, rather than the overused European mythologies. Huge empires with medieval levels of technology vie with each other with magic, large standing legions, and ancient technological devices.
