The swing out is a step used in [swing dancing]?.
The basic basic way to describe the steps are step step triple step step step triple step. A swing out is begun in the open position. The Lead begins the swing out with his Left hand holding the follows right and the follow holding on with the right hand. The lead begins the swing out on the left foot and the follows begin it on the right foot. The lead brings the follow in on the 1 and 2 counts and turns leading the follow to face the opposite direction of where they began on the 3 and 4. Also on the 3 the lead puts his right hand on the follows back (above the small of the back) and the follow places her left hand ontop of the leads right resting her hand on his shoulder or bicep. On 5 the lead looks over his shoulder and takes a lunge type step to face behind where he is positioned on the 4. The follow on 5 turns her head away from the lead looking to where she was on the 4 and stepping backwards. On the 6 the lead releases the follow's back but stays connected to the follow through his left hand. The follow continues taking another step backwards. 7 and 8 is a triple step in place. Generally on 7 and 8 follows and leads add styling onto the triple step. For a lead it would be 1 (left pulled backwards) 2 (right pulled backwards) 3 and 4 (left -to the side- right -again to the side- left again --to square up with the partner-) 5 (right directly behind left put your weight on the foot and lunge --thus leading the follow--) 6 (left bring up to right foot position) 7 and 8 ( right left right in place). Following steps are 1 (right forward) 2 (left forward) 3 and 4 (right foot should point in between leads legs left weight shift behind right foot then shift weight to the right foot again) 5 (left foot step backwards as far as lead's connection allows) 6 (right backwards again slightly) 7 and 8 (left right left in place). All steps are weight changes.
