Rudolf Hess (1894-1987)

A prominent figure in Nazi Germany - he was Adolf Hitler's deputy as NSDAP party leader and Führer. He fled to Great Britain in May 1941 - bailing from his Messerschmitt Me-110 in Ayrshire, supposedly to negotiate peace with the Duke of Hamilton. This journey, however, is one of the odder events of World War II.

Hess was tried at Nuremberg after the war and was given life sentence. He died in Spandau?, a prison? in West Berlin in 1987.
