Received Pronunciation is the pronunciation of English used by the BBC. It implies use of a [Home Counties]? accent to speak the dialect of English used by the [British Government]? for official purposes, otherwise known as the Queen's English, BBC English, British English or standard English. It is often abbreviated to RP.
