A tiny island in the [South Pacific]?, one of the most remote sites of human habitation on the planet. Its fascinating history begins with the famous mutiny on the [H.M.S. Bounty]?; the original Pitcairners were roughneck sailors and their Tahitian "wives." An English-Polynesian creole, as well as EnglishLanguage, are spoken there. A protectorate of the United Kingdom --but politically unique. Population (1991) around 60.
