Optimization

Optimization is a general term for maximizing or minimizing a particular statistic. In computer programming, the statistic that is usually of interest is the execution time or memory requirements of a computer program. See software optimization. In mathematics, it is usually the value of a particular function. See [mathematical optimization]?.
