An organization required to ensure the defense of a particular area, as a country, state or city or to expand the territorial control of the country, etc. Militaries have sometimes been used purely as raiding forces for economic gain as Viking longboats and pirate ships. Militaries study and practice the art of war, both offensive and defensive tactics?. This includes killing people, including sometimes civilian?s, and the destruction of strategic targets, including sometimes civilian property. Militaries benefit their country by providing security from foreign and internal conflict. Militaries also provide employment and economic benefits and military research provides civilian spin-off technologies.
