[Home]Logical fallacy/Ad hominem tu quoque

Ad hominem tu quoque, literally, "at the person, you too," is a logical fallacy that could be called the "hypocrisy" argument. It occurs when a claim is dismissed either because it is inconsistent with other claims which the claimant is making or because what it is inconsistent with the claimant's actions.

An example would be the dismissal of a set of religious precepts because the actions of a person who professes that religion, does not comply with those precepts.
