Leslie A. Whittington, associate professor. Whittington died at 45 in the crash of American Airlines Flight 77 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. She was on her way to Australia with her husband, Charles S. Falkenberg, and daughters Zoe Falkenberg & Dana Falkenberg for a sabbatical? and to be a visiting fellow at the [Australian National University]? in Canberra, Australia.

Whittington graduated from East High School in Denver?, Colorado along with Falkenberg, however they did not date till after graduation. They married in 1984. Around 1989 the couple moved to Maryland.

Whittington received her master's degree in economics from the [University of Colorado]? in 1987 and her doctoral? degree in 1989. She received a bachelor's degree in business from Regis College's School for Professional Studies in 1984. She is known nationally in the U.S. for her research on [marital disincentives]? created by the "[marriage tax]?". Whittington was an associate professor of public policy for Georgetown University.
