Iqaluit is the territorial capital and the largest community of Canada's youngest territory, Nunavut. Population in 2000 is around 5000 people, with a majority of them Inuit.

Begun as an American airbase in WWII, the town of Frobisher Bay exploded in population during the construction of the [DEW line]? in the 1950's. On January 1, 1987, the name of this municipality was officially changed from [Frobisher Bay]? to Iqaluit, which means "place of many fish" in Inuktitut.
