Handloading is the process used to create firearm
cartridge gun by hand versus the onse put together "en mass" and sold over the commercial counter in packages of 6 to 50. It is general accepted that handloaded cartridges can be more accurate than mass produced ones and can be considered to be cheaper to shoot. The cartridge, see
cartridge is described elsewhere. The handloading process depends on consistency. Each cartridge completed should be exactly like the previous ones produced. Most handloaders customize their cartridges to their specific gun. Many items are considered critical, such a powder (type, quantity), manufacturer of brass, and primers, bullets (manufacturer, type, weight, use) and of course the equipment used to put the cartridge together. It is typically agreed that rimfire cartridges (e.g. .22 long rifle)are not handloaded.
