Gota Kanal

Göta Kanal is sometimes called the blue ribbon of Sweden. This canal was constructed in the early 19th century, stretching all the way from Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast, combined with river Göta älv, through the great lakes Vänern and Vättern, combined with river Motala ström, and to Söderköping? on the Baltic Sea. Built only decades before the advent of railroads (see Rail Transport), the canal was soon outdated, and never upgraded. This makes it a perfect tourist attraction.

Göta Kanal was constructed by [Baltzar von Platen]?. He got permission to begin work in 1809 and the canal was finally finished in 1832.
