1913, [William Fox]
? founded two
companies, Greater New York Film Rental, a distribution firm, which was part of the
Independents, and Fox (or Box, depending on the source) Office Attractions Company, a production company. In
1915 he merged them to Fox Film Corporation (see [Vertical Integration]
?); in
1917 the company moved to
Hollywood. During
World War I, Fox was the leading production company in the
USA. William Fox lost control over the company after the [1929 stock market crash]
