In biochemistry, disaccharides are carbohydrates in the form of simple sugars.

Disaccharides are made up of two monosaccharides joined together (hence di-saccharides). Like monosachrides they are sweet, water soluble and crystalline. Examples include sucrose?, maltose? and maltose?.
