Design Elements

Design Elements cover the various physical aspects of the highway structure. The article would discuss the elements, their purpose and general standards for them.

The article can be sub-divided into basic highway facility elements such as bridges, tunnels and roadways. In turn they can be sub-divided. For instance, roadways can be single or dual, intersectioned or grade-separated, and urban or rural. Each type can have different elements and standards for number of lanes, shoulders, means of drainage, grades and curves, and the like.
