Carl Richard Lepsius. Born 1810 in Naumburg on the river Saale, died 1884. German professor of Egyptology? and linguist.

He developed a Standard Alphabet for writing African Languages. It was published 1855 and a revised edition in 1863.

His Nubian Grammar contains a survey of African peoples and a classification of African languages.
