Bash is a
GNU Unix shell, made popular by distribution with
Linux. Like many GNU utilities the name is a pun; it stands for Bourne-Again Shell, [Steve Bourne]
? being the author of the original shell, [Bourne shell]
?.
Bash incorporates many features of later shells whilst still remaining largely compatible with the original Bourne shell. Of the new features most of them had their roots in the [Korn shell]?.
