Beaumarchais, the pen name of Pierre-Augustin Caron, (1732-1799)

Beaumarchais was a man of many talents, and although he is perhaps best known as a writer of the comedy on which Gioacchino Rossini's [Barber of Seville]? and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro were based, he was (amongst many other things) also a highly accomplished musician, watch-maker, secret agent, and architect.
