A relationship? that is not symmetrical?; that is, it has a definite direction that cannot be reversed without changing its meaning. For instance, if A is the child of B, it cannot be said that B is the child of A. Asymmetrical relationships are useful in defining hierarchies.

As I said on the page [Hierarchial relationship/Talk]?, I really think these sort of pages should be deleted. The only possible use I can see for this would be the topic of asymmetric or antisymmetric relations in mathematics, but most of this is just useless generalities. -- SJK
