"Uncle" Andy Desperito was the father of three great children. Nicole, Anthony, and David. He left behind a loving wife Laura, sister Diane and both his parents Adele and Tony. He loved his sister's children including myself Nick and my brother Joe, and he also had a wonderful relationship with our father Pat. Uncle Andy was a great man, who had a love for his children that cannot be described. He strived to be the best at everything he did, always going the extra mile to make the most of his life. On September 11, 2001 he went the extra mile to help others live their lives to the max. He loved the FDNY, and on that day he proved it. I will Never forget him or his "not for nothing" saying. Most of all I will miss him. I know he is watching us all and he knows that I love him, and he truly has made us all very proud. He is "Our Hero", and I will never forget him. RIP Uncle Andy!

I had the privledge of getting to know Uncle Andy when I started dating his nephew Nick. He was always soemone that could easily be admired. He took great pride in many things, but most of all in his family and in his job. It was inspiring to meet someone who loved what they did and always put forth 100 % effort each day that he went to work. He will be missed, but never forgotten. Anyone that ever met Uncle Andy is saddened by his death, yet they are not surprised that he risked his own life to save many others. The FDNY lost a wonderful man on September 11th, but his dedication and zest for life will always remain in our hearts.

Just want to let you know that Bono of U2 was wearing the Engine 1 shirt at his concert. Also, as they sang "One" they listed all the names of the victims. Uncle Andy was there, although he would probably call U2's music noise.

Andy, you may be gone but you will never be forgotten!

I have known Andy for as long as I can remember. He was a wonderful, funny person. The one thing that especially sticks out in my mind, though, is how he always teased me about playing volleyball. I am pretty bad and we always joked about it, but he always made sure I got up and played no matter what -- he didn't let me just sit there and feel sorry for myself. That's the kind of person Andy was, and he will be missed.
