The Mountain State. Broke off of Virginia during the US Civil War. Famous for coal mines in general, and the mine wars in particular. The capitol is Charleston, in the SW area of the state.
State colors: Blue and Gold
State bird: Cardinal
State flower: Rhododendron (Alternately, the Satellite Dish)
Lots of neat places to visit, like the New River Gorge Bridge (Tall enough that people can parachute off it if they're careful), and lots of national and state parks.
