A Summary overview of the various philosophical positions that can be taken with regard to the question "Does God Exist?".

"God" used here as shorthand for "supreme power in the Universe", "creator of the Universe", and/or "maintainer of the Universe".

For more information, see the relevant articles.

* Strong Atheism: The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God does not exist.

* Weak Atheism: The position that one believes one does not have adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God exists, and that by Occam's Razor one may not thereby hold that God exists..

* Agnosticism: The position that one believes one does not have adequate evidence to reasonably make a meaningful statement about the existence or nonexistence of God.

* Deism: The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God exists, but that available evidence does not warrant the statement that God has intervened in human history or our personal lives.

* Theism: The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God exists, and has intervened in human history and our personal lives.

:: Monotheism: The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God exists and is a unitary entity (generally found with the belief that God has intervened in human history and our personal lives).

:: Trinitarianism: The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God exists and is a triune entity (generally found with the belief that God has intervened in human history and our personal lives).

: "Theistic Dualism" (What's the real name for this?). The position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that two and only two Gods of equal power exist. Examples are Zorastrianism? and Wicca. (Subsidiary beings of lesser power may also be held to exist.)

*Polytheism: Similar to Theism, contrast Monotheism; the position that one believes one has adequate evidence to reasonably hold that God-like power exists, divided among multiple entities, possibly of varying degrees of power. Examples are ancient Egyptian religion, ancient Greek religion, and Hinduism.

*Animism: The position that the "great spirit" is embodied not in an anthropomorphic being but in the common objects around us; in the case of native Americans for example the spirit of the wind or the water or a rock. Examples include many indigenous peoples and might include Druids

*Non-Theism (don't know if there's a better name for this): Belief in a nonanthropomorphic power in the universe; or beliefs which do not address a being or entity as such. Examples include Buddhism, Zen, Confucianism, and Taoism
