Revision 24 . . October 18, 2001 5:19 am by The Cunctator [*I don't buy the merge--Vitamin C and ascorbic acid are not identically the same; Vit. C is a form of ascorbic acid]

Revision 22 . . October 18, 2001 2:16 am by Taw [merged with ascorbic acid]

Revision 20 . . October 18, 2001 12:56 am by The Cunctator [*L enantiomer, what ever that is]
Revision 19 . . October 18, 2001 12:32 am by (logged).186.19.xxx [Not silly to have a link to ascorbic acid: D-ascorbic acid is *not* vitamin C. AA can be considered distinct from its human-health context, as per the /Talk page. So, a new article has been created]
Revision 18 . . October 17, 2001 7:04 am by Taw [linking [[ascorbic acid]] was really silly; [[ascorbic acid]] points back to [[vitamin c]]]
Revision 17 . . October 17, 2001 5:08 am by (logged).186.19.xxx [*free linked the first instance of "ascorbic acid" and of "water"]

Ascorbic Acid, also known as Vitamin C, is a water-soluble organic acid and a vitamin used by the body for a number of purposes. Only L-enantiomer is biologically active.

Molecular formula: C6H8O6.

The SMILES string: C1(O)=C(O)C(=O)OC1(C(O)(CC)).

Melting point: 190-192 C.

It is easily oxidized, and as such is used as a reductant in photographic
developer solutions.

Vitamin C is used to prevent scurvy, improve iron absorption and heal bruise?s. It is also useful as a concommitant medicine in cold?s, flu?, and other infection?s. Rationale for the use is that there is increased demand for ascorbic acid to take part in regeneratory actions.
