after it was defeated by the [Axis powers]? in World War II. The eastern States are under german influence, the western, under
the japanese. The title character is a writer who has published a best-selling alternate world novel ('The grasshopper lies heavy') in which the Axis powers lost the war; a world similar to, but not entirely like our own.
