If most people use it, it cannot be a misnomer. See Gulf War/talk: The right name would be Second Gulf War to differentiate from the First Gulf War. However, most people hearing Gulf War will think Kuwait, just as most people hearing ODS will think Gulf War --Yooden

Even the Air Force link on the first page of Google seems to indicate this ("Airpower in Operation Desert Storm"). --Yooden


Operation Desert Storm has two meanings:

1) an operation within the Gulf War.
2) synonym for the entire Gulf War.

If you disagree with the current (my) wording... Change it! I did make an effort to point out that it has two meanings! --drj
