Aside from his acting career, Kevin Bacon is well known for a college movie trivia game which is intended to find the Bacon number of an arbitrary actor or actress. # the actor or actress is chosen # If the actor or actress appeared in a movie with Kevin Bacon, the movie is named, and the Bacon Number is one. # If the actor or actress never appeared in a movie with Kevin Bacon, but someone else appeared in a movie with them, and also in a separate movie with Kevin Bacon, then the actor or actress gets a Bacon number of two, and 'linking' person is mentioned, and both movies are named. # Progressively longer chains of connecting persons are constructed. It is an unproven theorem of this game that everyone who has ever appeared in any movie has a Bacon number. Movies with no actors are ignored as are movies with only one actor. (Although some people claim actors who only appeared in a single movie and were the only actor in that movie have a Bacon Number of Zero by definition) |
