A cappella is an Italian term for [vocal music]? without instrumental accompaniment. The term literally means like the chapel(music). A capella music was and is often used in [church music]?. Perhaps the first example of a cappella music is [Gregorian chant]?, though that of course is not the first case of singing without instrumental accompaniment.
