COMPTIA'S A+ CERTIFICATION

The overall premise behind Comptia's A+ certification is to provide assurance to computer owners and employers that an individual has the proper knowledge and ability to build, repair, troubleshoot, and upgrade microcomputer systems. These two tests are aimed for the ability and knowledge that technician should have after six months of on-the-job training.

The first test, the Core exam, has 69 questions covering various domains:
*Installation, Configuration, and Upgrading
*Diagnosing and Troubleshooting
*Safety and Preventive Maintenance
*Motherboard / Processors / Memory
*Printers
*Portable Systems
*Basic Networking
*Customer Satisfaction

The second test, the Microsoft DOS / Windows exam, has 70 questions covering various domains:
*Function, Structure, Operation, and File Management
*Memeory Management
*Installation, Configuration, and Upgrading
*Diagnosing and Troubleshooting
*Networks

As of January 2000 (?), CompTIA? was in the process of rewriting their exams to use adaptive testing technology.
