The 12 steps for recovery were first created to aid those who were recovering from alcoholism.

The 12 steps for recovery were first created to aid those who were recovering from alcoholism. Since the original publication of the 12 steps in the 1939 book Alcoholics Anonymous, other 12-step programs have adapted them to a variety of addictions.
